I have been practicing EMDR, which stands for Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing for almost 20 years and have found this an overwhelmingly effective therapy for trauma. I have worked with a variety of trauma survivors, including those who are abuse survivors, 9/11 survivors, and military war veterans. EMDR is a highly effective evidence-based practice for trauma that can also be used for lesser traumas and negative core beliefs one hold because of something that has happened to them, whether they find that situation traumatic or not. Feel free to call for a consultation to address the possibility of EMDR therapy.
I am a Masters Level Certified Addictions Professional in the state of Florida and have worked with individuals and their families impacted by addictions for ten years. Addictions are not simply to drugs or alcohol and can also be process or behavioral addictions, like shopping or gambling, though all become a problem when they start impacting the person’s life negatively. We can address addictions with therapy, though some people may require more intense treatment, like medical detox, first.
I have seen a variety of couples, including married, pre married, cohabitating, and dating partners and no couple should be denied therapy. Typical issues within couples include communication issues and imbalance of power, both of which can be worked on and solved through therapy sessions.
I understand that being a part of a family is not always easy. Whether you want to address a family dynamics concern, behavioral concerns within the family, or getting everyone involved in helping out to keep the family running at its best, family therapy can help family members understand each other, improve communication, and take responsibility for their part in family functions.
I treat the person and rarely the symptom, though I want my clients to have some relief from negative emotions such as anxiety or depression. My approach for this is to work to find relief from the symptoms, but also dig deep to find out what the underlying causes are for these symptoms and treat those as well, as to help to keep the symptoms from returning and give my clients long-term relief.
All of us struggle a little when we experience a major change in our lives and some guidance and support from a therapist, in addition to a different perspective, can be key to moving past these times. Anything from finishing school and entering the workforce, getting married, having children, becoming and “empty nester”, or retiring can have a major impact on our lives and it could help to talk to a therapist when you find yourself in any of these or other positions in your life.
I also provide coaching services, which is less therapy and more life guidance. If you are feeling like maybe therapy is not what you need right now, but coaching might be helpful, please call me to talk more about what this might look like for you. Coaching services are not covered by insurance.
